About
Storytellers United organises Story Jam: New Neighbours, in cooperation with Sound & Vision and the Netherlands Film Festival. During three days, five teams worked together in multidisciplinary teams under the guidance of coaches on new intercultural story prototypes. Each prototype casts a different light on the multicultural society of the Netherlands. Projects took form of a web experience, VR, performance, app or installation. All the projects were share publicly during the Netherlands Film Festival.

During the Story Jam we explored topics regarding new neighbours/ new comers and their process of integration.
We realised that integration is a two-way street.
It is not only the responsibility of the new neighbours to integrate, but also the old neighbours to welcome them… and one of the best ways to do so is by learning from each other’s context.
We want you to understand context as a separate thing from country or culture.
The context is the sum of values, skills and ways of doing things. Depending on the context you grew in, or the context you spend the most time in, you will develop certain qualities and skills that help you thrive in that context.
We created a participatory experience that focuses on understanding the narratives and choices of different contexts.

Imagina que sales de tu apartamento a tirar la basura y olvidas tus llaves. Intentas alternativas para entrar pero todas fallan. Ves a tu vecino con un juego de herramientas, pero nunca antes has hablado con él, así que...
¿Qué harías?
A) Llamar a un cerrajero, esperar su llegada y pagar una tarifa alta.
B) Pedir ayuda a tu vecino.
Te encuentras con un extraño en un café, se llevan bien y charlan durante casi 2 horas. Este extraño te invita a una fiesta con sus amigos. ¿Qué harías?
A) Antes de aceptar, quieres saber cuándo, dónde y quién va a la fiesta.
B) Aceptas sin vacilar y dejas que las cosas fluyan.
El día amaneció a 28° grados. Quieres ir a nadar. Encuentras una playa que está a 45 min en bici y 15 min en coche. ¿Qué harías?
A) Ir a la playa en bicicleta, ¿para qué gastar dinero cuando puedes andar en bicicleta?
B) Llama a un uber, hace bastante calor.
Ahora debes pensar, ¿cuál es el propósito de estas preguntas?
Bueno, en realidad, a lo que estás respondiendo, es elegir entre:
Colectivismo VS Individualismo
Espontaneidad VS Estructura
Encontrar comodidad en el ajetreo
VS Indulgencia
Habilidades, actitudes y formas de hacer las cosas, las identificamos en todos los contextos que exploramos.
Queremos enfatizar que no importa de dónde vengas, es decir, país o cultura, es el contexto lo que realmente nos moldea. Aprender estas diferentes habilidades, actitudes y formas de hacer las cosas puede ayudarnos a prosperar en más de un contexto y ese es el verdadero ORO de la multiculturalidad.
Este proyecto comenzó con la idea de:
''Soy bueno sobreviviendo al caos, pero desde que llegué aquí (Países Bajos), he tenido que aprender a relajarme, porque todo está bajo control, no necesito estar alerta todo el tiempo, puedo descansar y tener tiempo para mí.''
Espero que salgas de esta página con algo nuevo para integrar a tu vida. Integrar a los nuevos vecinos, ellos, nosotros, no somos tan diferentes como crees.
Mi compañera de equipo Oyunaa, que ama los jeans, dijo:
“Todos usamos jeans, ¿no? No somos tan diferentes como creemos que somos”
